Hyaluronic acid has been the top ingredient listed in many emerging skincare products, everything from serums to facial oils, and even our SkinGlow Bundle - which contains three facial oils - all of which contain hyaluronic acid! So what's the real truth with this highly coveted ingredient? Is it truly everything it boasts to be? Or it is just an extra ingredient to add to the list of things we can't pronounce? Let's find out!
HA - also known as hyaluronic acid, is actually naturally produced within the body. It's a clear gooey substance who's main function is to retain water to keep tissues well lubricated and moist. The largest amounts of it are found in the skin, eyes, and connective tissues.
When hyaluronic acid is found within skincare ingredients, the benefits to the skin's surface are very much noticeable. The first and perhaps most obvious is healthier more supple skin. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, so the moisture will be brought forth to the surface of the skin without a greasy or oily feeling.
Hydrated skin also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When applied to the surface of the skin, hyaluronic acid serums can reduce redness, wrinkles, and even dermatitis.
